Abstract
ZettelGeist is a plaintext note-taking software system inspired by the traditional notecard method. The project founders have both been interested in taking notes in the classical way, which is not possible with any existing notetaking system--none of which are really designed for academic or student research use. The default assumption of our system is that we work from plaintext files. The idea is to focus on true notetaking by not encouraging using large, complex documents full of data. Individual notecards can be created and searched by many fields, then transferred into working outlines for drafting completed papers, articles, and books. Version 1.6 published 1 June 2021.
