Abstract
The Greeks did not have specialized costumes intentionally created for exclusive use during cultic activity, but clothing did play important roles in ancient Greek religion. Clothing and accessories could differentiate cultic functionaries from participants, visually communicate social and cultic standing, and underscore the importance of ritual propriety. It also became a part of ritual action when dedicated to a deity.
