Abstract
Describes preliminary findings from a participatory action research project with disadvantaged African-American children and youth. Services described include child and youth social work, and an after-school program for disadvantaged youth. When asked what they valued most in their services, youth prioritized compassion. Further research was done about how youth experienced compassion, which is also described.
